So Much for No Smoking…

Written by Matt Sadler on December 15, 2009 – 8:38 am -

I am crossing a restaurant off my list of places I visit- Bailey’s Smokehouse & Tavern.

The term “smokehouse” is quite appropriate. Somehow they have managed to make the place a smoking facility by blocking of 6 tables as non-smoking and making the other 50 table tops smoking.

The food is mediocre at best, but no one really goes there for the food. They go there to watch sports and drink a crapload of alcohol. I believe in the right to smoke, and the Libertarian me has some issues with the smoking ban. That doesn’t keep me from enjoying the results of the ban and setting certain expectations. So when those expectations aren’t met, expect me to be angry.

Anyway, the place was slammed. I am convinced that every smoker in Richmond found there way out there. And such, I will make sure not to return.

*It also doesn’t help that there was open drug dealing in the rest room and angry customers wielding axes.

That last line seals the deal.

Your stance on this is why they shouldn’t have passed a law. If you don’t like it, spend your money elsewhere. If your working there and don’t like it, get a job somewhere else as well. It should be the owners decision to allow smoking or not.

Seriously, who tries to solve a problem by wielding an axe. That is never a good thing.

We ate at Joe’s Inn in the Fan the other night. Even though we were in the non-smoking room, the smoke coming from the other room was awful. You must also walk in to the smoking room to use the ladies room….yuk!

Why do I think that is a violation of the law? i thought the law stated that patrons would not have to walk through the smoking section to get to the restrooms. The same thing was the case at Baily’s.

Unfortunately I read the law and it states it is okay for patrons to walk through a smoking section to get to a rest room. I was not at all happy to read that. Ptooey :-(

it’s funny because I always thought one of the core tenets of libertarianism is “i don’t care what you do as long as it doesn’t harm me” so when you’re talking about second hand smoke, i think that can be seen through that lens.

so I get the government intervention part, but it’s funny how even things that seem cut and dry, aren’t exactly that.
